Town Mayor, Councillor Mrs Elizabeth George
Charity Gala Opera and Supper Evening in aid of The Forget Me Not Chorus

On Saturday the 22nd October the Mayor of Cowbridge ,Councillor Elizabeth George, hosted her Charity Gala Opera and Supper Evening at Cowbridge Town Hall, in aid of her chosen charity, THE FORGET ME NOT CHORUS, and what a spectacular evening it was.

The Sold Out signs had been posted several weeks before the event and a capacity audience was treated to a superb evening’s entertainment, whilst enjoying a convivial three course supper.

The stars of the evening were all artists who have worked with many of the great Opera Companies including the WNO and ENO.

An intimate atmosphere was created by the artists moving amongst the guest’s tables while performing well known excerpts from Italian and French Operas, and hits from well-known musicals.

Memorable highlights included the Duet from the Pearl Fishers by Bizet, sung by baritone Owen Webb and tenor Phillip Lloyd Holtam which brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience, and a highly amusing rendition of the Cats Duet by Rossini performed by mezzo soprano Kate Woolveridge and soprano Stacey Wheeler, all accompanied by Sharon Richards on the piano.

Kate, who is the guiding light behind the Forget me Not Chorus, brought the audience to their feet with her performance of the emotional Mon Coeur S’ouvre a ta Voix by Saint- Saens. The evening was brought to a close with a moving performance of All I Ask of You from the musical The Phantom of the Opera. The audience would not let the performers leave the stage before they all joined in an encore of Tonight from West Side Story.

Cllr George said that she was thrilled by the success of the evening which raised a considerable sum for the charity and she thanked all who supported the event for their generosity in the form of sponsorship, donations and provision of raffle prizes.
