Mayor's Diary for December 2017 and January 2018

This month’s Mayor’s Diary covers the months of December 2017 and January 2018.

On the 14th December a group of children from Y Bont Faen School came into the Council Chamber and Mayor’s Parlour to undertake a filming project. They asked various questions and I was extremely lucky to have assistance from the Deputy Mayor, Betty Alden from the History Society and David Pearce from the Cowbridge Museum in answering them. On the 17th December My Consort, Rob and I attended a Carols by Candlelight Service in the United Free Church. The church was full to capacity and it was lovely to hear singing from the choirs of both of our primary schools, Y Bont Faen and Ysgol Iolo Morganwg. Everyone enjoyed refreshments in the church hall after the event. The Lunch Club Christmas dinner took place on the 18th December in the Lesser Town Hall and we were invited guests along with Jane Hutt AM plus the Town Hall staff.  Father Christmas paid a visit and a full turkey dinner was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to the RVS for all they do serving lunches every Monday throughout the year.  On Christmas day morning I visited the Southways Home in Cowbridge with my consort Rob. It was lovely to continue the long standing tradition of the Mayor visiting on Christmas Day. The Gem printed photos of this in the 11th January edition. We received a very warm and friendly welcome.

January saw my Consort and I attend the MPCT (Motivational Preparation College for Training) Award Ceremony in Cardiff City Stadium on the 12th January.  Students from Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport and Swansea were present and treated us to a physical display of various drills.  The event was very well supported by the Lord Lieutenant, various Mayors, dignitaries and very proud parents and families.  Certificates were handed out to all and a number of special awards were presented.  Congratulations to all involved.  On the 28th January Rob and I attended a Music in the Vale Gala Concert in Stanwell School Penarth. The concert showcased the winners and runners up from the Music in the Vale competition held in November 2017.  Cowbridge winners included Soffia Easterby, winner of the junior vocal category and Gabriel Owen a member of the winning choir Cor Heol Y March.  The young talent on display was truly amazing.  I visited the Penarth Mayor’s charity coffee morning on the 24th January in the Mayor’s  parlour in the Penarth Town Council offices along with all the other local Vale Mayors to help raise money for his chosen charities.

Finally just a reminder my next two coffee mornings in aid of Cancer Research Wales are on the 3rd February and 3rd March from 10.30am to Noon in the Mayor’s Parlour Cowbridge Town Hall everyone is welcome.
